I'm running a Sapphire Radeon 5870 in Windows 7 and I get the General Protection Fault error as well.Specifically, I get it in the first mission, On Eden Prime, At the start, As soon as I sprint for more than about 3-5 seconds. This is NOT, I REPEAT, NOT an Nvidia thing.
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to set y'all straight.
